Fourteen years ago I graduated college unsure of my next steps. I started college with a goal of entering the fashion industry. After years of retail and a store management internship, I realized it wasn't enough. It was then, then that I embarked on a career in higher education and education policy.
Over the course of my career, I have served as a Coordinator of Multicultural Recruitment, an Academic Advisor, and most recently Assistant Dean-- focused on equitable student outcomes. My research as a Master's student was used each year to apply for federal funding in high needs areas and ultimately used to attain Race to the the Top funding for the State of Delaware. I have presented at national and regional conferences on topics related to academic advising and diversity in higher education. In Fall 2014, I began studying for a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership. I was recently honored as a Graduate Student of Distinction.
I am a "retired" natural hair blogger. I began my blogging career in 2009, where I began chronicling my quarter life experience. This led to me co-founding Delaware Naturalistas, a natural hair event company. I also began writing for major online publications including, blackhairmedia.com and naturalhairrules.com. I am now focusing on topics related to college access and education equity a.k.a. my reason.
